Team Hope

Love Requires Action

Team Hope is a ministry of the Cornerstone Church and a movement of people who believe that love requires action. Our aim is to provide a place of hope and advocating for those in need. In the book of Luke 4:18, Jesus said “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” We believe that if the same Spirit is upon us that was on Jesus, that we too will have the same calling. It’s with that mandate and Spirit we have assembled this team to be the Hope to the World. (1 Peter 1:3)

Team Hope has three directives:

  • Hope for our Community
  • Hope for Orphans and Families
  • Hope for the World

    Hope for Orphans and Families

Team Hope aims to address the mandate from the Lord to take care of the orphan (James 1:27) as well as those who work with them. In Orange County alone, there are 3,000 children in the foster care system, the average age of these children is 9 years old. While 1,500 of them are currently placed in homes, approximately 60% of these children are abused or neglected even after being placed in a home. Without a permanent, loving family, kids in the foster care system will experience, on average, three or more different placements, which is deeply unsettling for children of any age. For those who never find a family, 50% of kids who “age out” of the foster system at the age of 21 are found either homeless or incarcerated within two years. All of these numbers can be changed by simply putting our love into action. By partnering with organizations that specialize in this area, we are able to show God’s love to those who need it the most: children and young adults lost in the governmental system and those who work with them.

Organizations with whom we are currently working are listed below.

    Teen Leadership Foundation

The Knot Youth Group - 2nd Sunday of the month at 5pm

Teen Leadership Foundation offers support and guidance for teens prior to being “aged out” of the foster care system at the age of 18. Programs provide avenues in which the teens can enter the adult world having a support basis surrounding them. These programs include camps, one-on-one mentoring, monthly youth groups, workshops teaching youth real-world skills to set them up for success, as well as group homes for youth facing homelessness.

The ORC provides supportive services focusing on education, employment, housing and health. Their main goal is to empower foster youth by providing them with the vital resources they need to become independent. Here, youth have access to employment leads and resume/interview assistance, guidance for options after high school, peer mentors, a washer/dryer, and a hot meal each day provided by members of the community.

    CASA

    Court Appointed Special Advocates

Volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. A CASA volunteer visits a child on a regular basis, interacts with all professionals involved in the case, and makes recommendations directly to the court, ensuring that the child's best interests are protected. With the support of CASA staff, volunteers address the child's educational needs, help find a permanent home, and provide the guidance and resources necessary for an independent future. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.

    Hope for the World

Kenya Missions Trip was November 2015

We had a Vacation Bible School for the children of Korogocho, located in the slums of Kenya. During the week there was Bible teaching, crafts, music, snacks and field activities for over 300 children. In the tin shacks of the Korogocho neighborhood, we were able to construct a window that will provide natural light, provide education in regards to malaria and HIV and share the gospel and love of Jesus to the people.
